The support initially was done through Danish consultant managed projects, thereafter through parallel structure projects primarily managed by the Vietnamese counterparts and lately through a sector programme being implemented aligned to the procedures and regulations of the Vietnamese government. As of the beginning of 2007 the support to the environment sector covers the following: · Environment Sector Programme – Development Cooperation in Environment DCE · Urban Environmental Management Project · Solid Waste Management Project in Nghe An province · Tree Seed Project · Can Tho University Project · Minor projects under the local grant authority · 5 Climate Change Projects· Support to World Bank’s Wetlands project · Development of the CDM market in Vietnam· Activities in the field of CDM Recently a number of projects have been finalised: · Environmental Information and Reporting · Marine Protected Area Project · Environmental Monitoring and Solid Waste Management – Thai Nguyen Province Latest initiatives: Climate change and disaster risk reduction are issues closely interlinked in a Vietnamese context. It is important that our assistance to Vietnam is checked for its climate change and disaster risk reduction dimension. A study in this field is under preparation and will cover the Danish assistance to agriculture, water, fisheries and environment. Denmark is supporting a project under the Asia Disaster Preparedness Centre to enhance communities in Vietnam and Cambodia to understand and adequately act on disaster warnings.
